Iljin Unisco, the building exterior and façade unit of South Korea’s Iljin Group, Monday announced it has won a $28 million deal for 3D curtain wall construction for Crown Sydney in Australia.

Crown Sydney is a casino and hotel that is currently under construction in Barangaroo, Sydney. When it opens in August 2021, Crown Sydney with 70 floors and a height of 271.3 meters will become the city`s tallest building, surpassing Sydney Tower’s observation deck (250 meters). It is located 800 meters from Sydney Opera House and provides spectacular views looking over the marina towards the Harbour Bridge and other landmarks in the city.

The 3D curtain wall façade system is known to be the most demanding part of the building exterior construction. It is widely applied to the building exterior as it is free from the building load, permitting more freedom in structural design in addition to aesthetics, according to the company.

Iljin Unisco has maintained its leadership in the curtain wall market since it introduced the construction method in 1975 in Korea. The company is well known for its mold-breaking curved 3D curtain wall technology.

"The key to this technology is a sophisticated design and engineering to realize it. We are now at par with global companies overseas," said Min Byung-seok, president of Iljin Unisco.

The company earned fame for its successful façade engineering of many landmark buildings in Korea and overseas, including Gangnam GT Tower, Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) and Seoul City Hall in Korea, Vancouver House in Canada, and Ruby Tower in Mumbai, India.

The unlisted company posted 95.3 billion won ($85.7 million) in sales and 6.6 billion won in operating profit last year.
