The appointment comes after former head Kwon Oh-hyun, who doubled as co-CEO of Samsung Electronics Co., resigned from the post last month.
Lee, 59, joined Samsung NEC (current Samsung SDI) in 1985 and has built most of his career in sales. He played a pivotal role in making the company the supplier of Apple’s first OLED phones. He has been on the company’s board since 2011.
Samsung SDS Co. promoted Hong Won-pyo, president of the solutions division, to chief executive following the resignation of Chung Yoo-sung.
Hong worked in U.S. Bell Laboratories and Korea’s telecommunications giant KT Corp. before joining Samsung Electronics in 2007, where he led the product strategy team in the mobile business unit and the media solution center.
Samsung Venture Investment Corp. appointed Jeon Yong-bae, senior vice president of Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co., as its new head. Jeon previously worked in Samsung Life Insurance, holding positions in various divisions from financial planning to future strategy.
