South Korea`s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. Tuesday said it has hired former BMW platform expert Fayez Abdul Rahman to add another layer of innovation to the basic framework of a vehicle in its luxury lineup.

The German native, 58, will join Hyundai Motor as Genesis Architecture Development Head to help drive the future direction of platforms unique to Hyundai Motor and bring innovation across the entire platform development process, Hyundai Motor said in a statement.

Rahman will be responsible for planning and developing a next-generation platform for Genesis sedans from November and then participate in the development process of other Hyundai luxury models.

"I am very impressed by the remarkable progress made by Hyundai Motor Group over the past decade. I am very excited to be responsible for future platform development as part of this young and dynamic organization,” Rahman said.

While working at BMW, Rahman led the platform development for the carmaker`s flagship 7 sedan series and high-performance M sedan series. For Hyundai Motor, he will develop a cutting-edge platform that can encompass a new ICT architecture in the car, while taking dynamic performance, comfort and safety elements to the highest level, Hyundai Motor said.

The latest hiring is designed to completely overhaul the way of developing a platform, said a Hyundai Motor official, adding "our platform development technology combined with globally recognized design capabilities will further raise our marketability and brand value.”

Hyundai Motor recruited former Volkswagen Group designer Luc Donckerwolke in 2015 and former head of Bentley’s exterior and advanced design last year as part of its efforts to enhance luxury brand power.
