South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co. will unveil special edition Sonata that has been built based on opinions from customers for the first time.

In a new bid to enhance interaction with customers, the carmaker has actively reflected customer feedback even in the determination of key power steering, not the interior or the exterior alone. Japan’s Toyota has made a similar attempt in 2013. Toyota Corolla adopted a separate emblem and a 17-inch alloy wheel among others on customer feedback.

Hyundai Motor aims to improve the communication with customers through the attempt.

According to the automobile industry on Monday, Hyundai Motor is poised to launch a special edition Sonata equipped with essential features favored by customers. The company’s 2nd H Ombudsman Committee established in May has received customer opinions about the special edition.

The special edition Sonata powered by a 1.6-liter turbo engine features a rack-mounted motor driven power steering (R-MDPS) system, which has been used for its luxurious 2.0-liter turbo lineup. R-MDPS is an electric steering system in which the electric motor module that controls car steering is mounted directly to the steering rack. It provides stability to the vehicle at high-speeds, precision, speedy response and low noise, compared to the column-mounted motor driven power steering (C-MDPS).

The new model is expected to have its own emblem. Automakers generally make a new emblem for a special model like Kia Motors’ Stinger and Mohave. The emblem for the special edition Sonata is inspired by the name of the special edition, and a diversity of customer opinions will also be reflected to many other parts of the car.
