South Korea’s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. fast losing ground in the world’s largest automobile market is hoping its new compact sedan rolling out from its new local plant would help to reverse fortune in China.

Beijing Hyundai Motor, a joint-venture between BAIC Motor and Hyundai Motor Company, on Tuesday (local time) released subcompact sedan All New Reina, the latest version in its bestselling model that was first introduced in 2010. Since then the brand sold 1.16 million units as of August.

Beijing Hyundai added a fourth factory in Changzhou last year and opened the fifth plant in Chongqing last month. All New Reina was the first output of the new Chongqing factory as it will be price-appealing to inland consumers.

“The new Reina is not just affordable and economical, but also safe and smart, having all the recipes to satisfy young drivers,” said a Beijing Hyundai official. “We developed the model aiming at consumers in their mid and late 20s.”

All New Reina made its debut at the 2017 Chongqing Motor Show in June. Its modern design, higher fuel efficiency and class-leading large trunk as well as safety features have been favorably received by media and dealers in China. Reina is a Spanish word for queen.
