LS Industrial Systems Co. (LSIS) said Thursday it has sealed a 46 billion won ($40.6 million) deal to build and operate a 18-megawtt (MW) solar power plant in Honshu, Japan.

The plant proposed by Ishikawa Hanamizuki 1 LLC would be the third solar power station in the country after the 40 MW Mito Newtown Mega Solar Park built by LSIS and the 39 MW Chitose solar power plant to be completed by the end of the year by Korea’s state-run Korea Electric Power Corp. LSIS is one of the 13 companies that have taken part in the Chitose plant.

Ishikawa Hanamizuki 1 is a special purpose corporation owned by Thailand-based solar power plant operator Thai Solar Energy.

The Hanamizuki solar power station will be built in a 30-square-meter area in Kashima, a district in Ishikawa Prefecture. Construction is to begin this month and due for completion on March 2019. Under a power purchase agreement with Hokuriku Electric Industry Co., the plant will supply electricity enough to power about 5,000 households a year for 20 years at 36 yen per kilowatt hour (kWh).

LSIS will provide the construction guarantee and ensure power efficiency through its Japanese entity. It will be responsible for engineering, procurement and construction of the project and oversee its operation and maintenance for the next 20 years.
