South Korea’s Kia Motors Corp. struggling in China has hired a renowned designer Pierre Leclercq, the former head of BMW M Design and vice president of China’s Great Wall Motors Design, as the head of styling at Kia Design Center.
He will report to his new workplace at the end of this month and work with Kia’s chief design officer Peter Schreyer and the head of Kia’s design center Youn Seon-ho in setting design directions.
Leclercq designed BMW’s SUV models X5 and X6 in Munich, Germany before heading the German automaker’s M performance sub-brand. Since 2011, his design team at BMW M unveiled M3, M4, X5M and X6M designs.
As the head of China’s Great Wall Motors Design since 2013, Leclercq designed Haval H6, which made its debut at Auto Shanghai 2017 in April.
