Doosan Corporation, the holding company of South Korea’s Doosan Group, a machinery and construction equipment conglomerate, said on Wednesday that it will be rolling out collaborative robots from this year.

According to the company, Doosan Robotics Co., a subsidiary of Doosan Corporation, will showcase four prototypes at Robotworld 2017, an international robot industry show that will be held at Korea International Exhibition Center in Goyang, Gyeonggi, from September 13 to 16. A collaborative robot is a machine that helps human operators perform tasks in close proximity.

Doosan Robotics, founded in 2015, has developed four models using indigenous technology.

An unnamed Doosan official said unlike existing industrial robots need to install safety fences and require large space, their robots can closely work next to human workers.

Doosan Robotics has self-developed both hardware and software of the collaborative robots. In particular, the company focused on developing models that allow even non-experts to easily install and program them via application.

An unnamed official from Doosan Robotics said that its collaborative robots are equipped with quality and safety features that are comparable to those developed by global industry players and that they have advantage over others as they are also price-competitive and convenient to operate. The models received positive response from test sites, the official added.

Doosan Robotic plans to begin mass production of the models this year and search for new markets before launching sales next year.
