South Korea’s LG Group Chairman Koo Bon-moo will visit the conglomerate’s next-generation research and development (R&D) center in Magok-dong, western Seoul, on Thursday, in a move to show his support for the newly-built laboratory that will accommodate researchers from mobile communications and vehicle components units.

According to an unnamed official from the conglomerate circle on Tuesday, Koo will visit LG Science Park in Magok, Gangseo District, western Seoul, on Thursday, before employees move in to the complex that has been created based on his commitment to R&D and philosophy from October. It will be Koo’s first public appearance since February when he attended LG Techno Conference that invited 400 R&D talents, the official added.

Koo has emphasized several times that he would like to create LG Science Park into a laboratory where talented individuals from natural sciences and engineering sectors can freely experiment with their ideas. At LG Techno Conference that took place in February at its R&D Campus in Yangjae-dong, southern Seoul, Koo told 400 engineers in their master’s and doctorate programs that the cutting-edge convergence research complex will provide an environment for them to promote research more creatively.

LG Group invested 4 trillion won ($3.54 billion) in LG Science Park, the country’s largest research complex where R&D employees from 9 units under LG Group will come together do research activity. The complex - which is composed of 26 9-storey rectangular buildings - has been built on a site of 170,000 square meters, which is as big as the site of Convention and Exhibition Center (Coex) in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul. Researchers from different units will come together to work on research projects.
