GS, Posco to build smart homes with Kakao

South Korea’s two major local construction companies have teamed up with the country’s leading mobile messenger operator Kakao Corp. to bring artificial intelligence applications into homes.

Kakao, GS Engineering & Construction Corp. and Posco Engineering & Construction Co. said Monday that they have formed a partnership to develop apartments with built-in AI assistants, enabling residents to control gas, manage security settings, activate home appliances and pay bills all on voice command.

This would be made possible via the messenger app Kakao Talk or the AI speakers placed throughout the apartment units.

The AI assistant will also have access to various services offered on Kakao Talk, including the cab-hailing app, music streaming platform, mobile payment as well as online shopping, news and weather functions.

This would all be made possible through the Kakao I platform, which features the full range of AI capabilities including voice and visual recognition, conversational user interface and automatic content recommendations.
