U.S.-based international manufacturer W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. holding proprietary right over waterproof, breathable Gore-Tex fabrics was fined over $3 million by the Korean antitrust agency for barring sales of the fabric-based products at large retail stores in Korea.

The Korea Fair Trade Commission on Sunday said it fined 3.67 billion won ($3.3 million) on W. L. Gore & Associates, W. L. Gore & Associates (Hong Kong) Ltd and Gore Korea for restricting sales of Gore-Tex-based clothes at big-store outlets to prevent fall in the fabric prices.

W. L. Gore & Associates dominates a 60 percent share in the Korean high-quality fabric market. The company is accused of abusing its predominance to prohibit 29 outdoor clothing companies from selling their products based on Gore-Tex fabrics at discount big-box stores from March 2009 to December 2012. It stopped fabric supply if any of the clothes makers disobeyed.
