South Korea’s confectionary giant Orion Corp. said on Tuesday that sales of its signature chocolate-flavored pie snack Choco Pie from its Chinese unit jumped 16 percent last month from a year ago and a whopping 143 percent from March to imply softening in Chinese consumer boycott on Korean brands amid diplomatic row over Seoul’s installment of a U.S. missile shield.
The food maker claimed that sales in its Chinese operation picked up from May and has recovered to 90 percent of last year’s levels.
Choco Pie has stayed at the top in 2017 China Brand Power Index (C-BPI) released by China’s brand rating agency Chnbrand in April for the second year in a row.
