South Korea’s Hyundai Engineering Co. won a $320 million order to build utility facilities at what would be the biggest petrochemical complex in Vietnam.

The company announced on Sunday that it signed a deal to construct water supply and treatment plant at the Long Son petrochemical complex, located about 100 kilometers southeast of Vietnam’s capital Ho Chi Minh City.

The utility facilities providing industrial water and steam are essential for seamless operation of the petrochemical complex, said the company. A joint venture including Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group has decided to invest $4.5 billion to build the petrochemical complex, which would be the biggest of its kind in Vietnam once its construction is completed.

The project will be carried out on a turnkey basis, meaning Hyundai Engineering will be responsible for the entire construction from designing to test operation. The company estimated the construction to take 47 months to complete after groundbreaking.

The latest order is Hyundai Engineering’s second turnkey-basis construction project in Vietnam following the Ba Ria thermal power plant expansion project in 1999. It had also designed the Mong Duong 1 coal-fired thermal power plant in northern Vietnam that its sister Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. completed building last year.
