Samsung Electronics Co. will start to receive pre-orders for its next premium smartphone Galaxy Note 8 from Korean fans on September 1.

As this is the first new Galaxy Note series in two years after its fire-prone predecessor was forced to halt production due to safety issues, all eyes are now on whether the Galaxy Note series would succeed in restoring its old fame.

According to the telecommunications industry on Thursday, Samsung Electronics and three Korean mobile communications companies will take pre-orders for the Galaxy Note 8 for 11 days from September 1. The premium smartphone will go on official sale in the local market on September 15, and people with pre-ordered phones will be able to activate their phones a day before the official release.

The Korean tech giant will unveil the Galaxy Note 8 in New York on August 23 (local time), about a month later than the usual date for the world debut of the Galaxy Note series. The Galaxy Note 7 was unveiled in New York on August 2 in 2016 and went on sale on August 19. But the company soon had to recall the Galaxy Note 7 and discontinued its production despite its highly praised features due to several reports of fire on its battery.

One industry official expected that the intentionally delayed debut would help boost expectation for the Galaxy Note 8 and would give the company enough time to manage its supply to prevent any shortage.

Market rumors are saying that the Galaxy Note 8 premium smartphone would be fitted with a 6.3-inch AMOLED display and dual rear cameras, becoming the first Galaxy Note series applying dual cameras and the largest screen. It is also expected to come with a 3300mAh embedded battery.

The tech industry predicts sales of the Galaxy Note 8 would hit a fresh record-high as it is the first Galaxy Note model in two years after the fire-prone Galaxy Note 7 debacle last year. The release of its rival Apple Inc`s iPhone 8 also will likely be delayed from the initially anticipated date.
