LG Electronics Inc. unveiled on Monday the second phone from its mid-tier Q series, the LG Q8, fitted with what it claims is perfect audio and video quality.

The latest Q8 is a smaller version of last year’s flagship V20 and includes all of its main specifications with the added bonus of water and dust resistance.

The IP67 certification ensures that the phone is workable even after being submerged in depths of water under one meter for 30 minutes, which would mean that it can withstand water spills, drops in the toilet and other possible hazards.

Q8 is able to deliver a crisp, clean sound thanks to the quad digital-to-analog converter (DAC) that helps reduce noise by 50 percent compared to the single DAC commonly used in other smartphones.

A dual camera on the back and a wide-angle camera on the front enable a sweeping vista when taking selfies or landscape photos. The two cameras in the rear consist of a 16-megapixel camera with a 78-degree angle view and a secondary 8-megapixel camera with a 135-degree ultra-wide angle lens. At the front is a 5-megapixel camera with a 120-degree wide angle view.

Seamless video recording is also made possible thanks to the latest features including Steady Record 2.0, electronic image stabilization (EIS) and digital image stabilization (DIS).

The customizable second screen displayed on top offers users a handy shortcut to contacts and apps. The fingerprint sensor on the home button is placed at the back of the device.

The Q8 is available in two colors - Titan and Sweet Pink - with a price tag of around 600,000 won ($537). It hits the European markets this week, followed by markets in Asia next month.
