South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co., will inject 300 billion won ($270 million) to upgrade production lines and maximize work efficiency at its second plant in Ulsan, South Gyeongsang Province.
The carmaker announced on Sunday it embarked on refurbishment work in Ulsan facility last weekend, a follow up to a similar project worth 220 billion won initiated at its first plant in Ulsan last February.
The latest upgrade program aims to increase the plant’s ability to assembly multiple vehicle types on the same line by more than 30 percent, while improving the entire production processes of pressing, body welding, painting, and assembly.
A height-adjustable conveyor belt system will be applied to improve working conditions for line workers, the company said.
