Hanwha Q Cells’ Q.ANTUM CELL mass production hits 1 bn units

South Korea’s Hanwha Q Cells Co. succeeded in producing 1 billion units of Q.ANTUM CELL solar modules for the first time in the industry, the company announced on Monday.

The Q.ANTUM CELL is one of Hanwha’s solar cells that convert solar energy into electrical power. It is made using the company’s proprietary Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell (PERC) solar technology that provides better power efficiency and prevents the module from overeating.

The company started mass producing Q.ANTUM CELL at its plant in Malaysia in 2014 and last year added production lines in Korea that has enabled it to successfully churn out total 1 billion units of Q.ANTUM CELLs, which is equivalent to 5 gigawatts (GWs) of electricity or enough to power homes of 6 million people for a year.

Hanwha Q Cells is the world’s largest solar cell maker capable of producing solar modules worth 6.8 GW a year. Of this, 4.2 GW worth of solar panels are produced at plants in Malaysia and Korea using its PERC technology. Its PERC-based solar cells including Q.PEAK and Q.PLUS are sold to customers in Europe, the U.S., Japan and Korea.
