Samsung Electronics and U.S. automotive electronics maker Harman International Industries are working together to explore and develop big data for customized software solutions for connected cars, said Sohn Young, chief strategy officer of Samsung Electronics Co.

Harman is mostly known for car infotainment and audio, but many of the staff at Harman Kardon, the audio making unit of Harman International Industries, are software programmers and developers.

The company’s core strength is its solutions on connecting automotive hardware and software, he said.

The world’s top semiconductor and smartphone maker has recently been aggressive in automotive electronics field. It completed $8 billion cash buyout of Harman in November last year.

Sohn had spearheaded the acquisition and now chairs the board of Harman.

The future car goes beyond means of mobility. It would have to serve as lifestyle-on-the-move as a space for learning, aesthetic and health experience, he said.

The bioengineering technology based on biometrics and analytics will borrow the car space to radically change our lifestyle, he said.

Sohn was invited to speak at the Maekyung Media Group’s the 24th Global Forum held in California, the U.S this week.
