South Korea’s military communication equipment manufacturer Huneed Technologies Co. won a $120 million order to supply core equipment for United States-based Boeing Company’s heavy-lift transport helicopter Chinook, becoming the first non-American company to supply parts for the multi-mission chopper.

Huneed Technologies on Tuesday held a rollout ceremony to celebrate the commencement of the electrical panel production for the Chinook on Tuesday at its headquarters in Songdo, Incheon, in the presence of officials from Boeing headquarters in the U.S. The Korean company said it will supply electrical panels to Boeing until 2022.

The Korean company claimed that it is the first non-American company to provide core parts for Chinook - a world quality transport chopper operated by the army in about 25 countries.

An unnamed official from the defense industry expected that the local military equipment company would win additional chopper parts orders in the future after it successfully entered the global helicopter market.

The electrical panel that will be supplied by Huneed Technologies to Boeing is a core part that delivers electric signals from the helicopter engine to avionics system. Huneed, an exclusive supplier of the electrical panel for the Chinook, is expected to benefit from growing demand for the helicopter across the world.
