LG Elec creates labs to reinforce AI and robotic technology

The company said on Sunday it reorganized its previous R&D lab, which had focused on voice, image and sensor recognition technologies, to separate and enlarge it into two centers each focused on AI and robotics.
The two new centers would come under Chief Technology Officer Ahn Seung-kwon and will work closely with the H&A (Home Appliance & Air Solution) Smart Solution Business Division.
The AI Lab will build a platform capable of processing data and information acquired through voice, image and sensory recognitions with self-learning capabilities. Placed under the Software Center responsible for developing the webOS and other such company-wide software platforms, the lab will focus on developing an advanced deep learning platform and application devices. The Advanced Robotics Lab, under the Convergence Center, will be dedicated to developing technologies to back smart robotics and Internet of Things.
Earlier this year, the tech giant released smart home appliances incorporating self-developed deep learning technology Deep ThinQ. The company is also commissioned to deploy robotic helpers at Incheon International Airport.
