The Korea Exchange said it would regularize tele- and video-conferencing to connect companies listed on the secondary Kosdaq market better with offshore investors.

The market authority said its Kosdaq operating unit will be arranging video IR conferences between members on the technology-laden market and investors based in Hong Kong and Singapore this month. Most offshore investment in Korean stocks mainly is done through investment banks and brokerages based there.

Kosdaq has come up with idea of hosting online IRs as foreign investment in Kosdaq-listed companies has significantly dropped in recent years. According to Kim Jae-joon, chairman of the Kosdaq market committee, the number of Korean market specialists stationed in Hong Kong and Singapore has nearly halved from the peak of about 60 in the recent years.

From last year, the Kosdaq operator has been arranging IR sessions for investors in Hong Kong and Singapore twice a year, instead of once since 2010. It hopes to draw more investors through regular online sessions.

The stock market operator hopes to regularize and broaden online IR sessions after testing out demand with Kosdaq bluechips. The sessions will be arranged through Korean and foreign brokerage houses located in Hong Kong and Singapore.
