Mid-sized conglomerate Booyoung Group and local real estate specializing Capstone Asset Management are contesting for the near $1 billion headquarters building of Hana Financial Group in downtown Seoul.

According to the investment banking (IB) industry Friday, Samjong KPMG, the sale advisor, shortlisted Booyoung and Capstone Asset Management among three to four bidders.

Booyoung, a midsize housing rental group that has been a frequent in commercial property market backed by liquid assets of 5 trillion won, is said to be a stronger candidate. The building is expected to fetch from 800 billion won ($713.4 million) to 900 billion won, below 1 trillion won sought by Hana Financial Group.

Capstone Asset Management is bidding in a consortium with Hong Kong-based real estate investment firm. It reportedly offered the highest price along with a design to turn the area into a mega shopping mall comprising of a department store, a hotel and a residence.

Located in Euljiro 2-ga, Jung-gu, Seoul, the headquarters building of KEB Hana Bank has 24 floors and 3 underground floors with 74,750 square meters in total floor area. It neighbors Lotte department stores and hotel.

A preferred bidder will be announced within this month.
