S. Korea’s Shinsung E&G to ship display equipment to AUO in Taiwan

Under the one-year deal that will last until February 2018, Shinsung E&G will provide its automated material handling system (AMHS) solution to AUO for the display maker’s 8.5-generation fab in Taichung in central Taiwan.
At 2:50 p.m. in Seoul trading, shares of Shinsung E&G were down 0.7 percent at 2,065 won.
The factory automation (FA) solution will help streamline logistics and manufacturing process of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels saving time and boosting outputs. It is the core technology of Shinsung E&G’s FA division, which raked in 570 billion won in orders from overseas over the past three years.
Compared with the Chinese display market, the Taiwanese display industry backed by local companies with technology prowess is not easy to make forays for foreign display equipment makers. Given that fact, the latest order is a big win for Shinsung. Also Taiwan is expected to dominate the world’s large-sized LCD market in terms of shipments this year.
Shinsung E&G’s latest order from Taiwan underscores its advanced technology, said a company official, adding that demand for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) and LCD panels will stay robust this year, which would be a boon to the Korean firm supplying high-value added FA solutions for display panel makers.
