Samsung Electronics Co. expects the latest flagship Galaxy S8 would not only help it restore its reputation but also make the smartphone smarter thanks to the newest features packed in its new premium phone.

The latest flagship Galaxy S8 series would help the company to regain consumer trust after the failure with its ill-fated Galaxy Note 7, Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung Electronics’ mobile communications business said during a press conference in Seoul on Thursday. The company last year discontinued the Galaxy Note 7 production in just a few months after its release due to the battery defects that were believed to have caused fire on the device.

The Galaxy S8 is “the safest and has the best quality among all of the Galaxy models” as it was built on multiple safety management system and underwent 8-point battery safety check, added Koh.

Meeting its expectations, the Galaxy S8 has already drawn 728,000 preorders over the last six days since its launch, and the number is expected to exceed 1 million by next Monday.

The Korean smartphone maker, which snatched the crown back from its archrival Apple Inc. as the world’s largest smartphone maker by sales in the first three months of this year, is committed not to repeat the mistake of the Galaxy Note 7 by enhancing the phone’s safety feature and adding newest functions that would further smarten up the smartphone.

ast month, the firm released Samsung Dex that allows users to use their smartphones like a personal computer by connecting the Dex station to their phone. Users can enjoy mobile games on a desktop monitor by connecting their phones to a big desktop monitor, keyboard and mouse. The company also joined forces with the Korea’s leading mobile game developer Netmarble Games to provide high graphic quality.

The Galaxy S8 is also equipped with fingerprint, iris and facial recognition sensors that will be connected to Samsung Pass, a biometric authentication service. Users will be able to have access to almost any mobile banking services with authentication through its iris scanning. The company plans to expand the application of Samsung Pass beyond financial services to the medical sector and online shopping.

Samsung Electronics again released its virtual reality headset Gear VR and Gear 360 camera that can be powered by the Galaxy S8.
