South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics will launch its TV Plus, video-on-demand (VOD) streaming service available in its smart TVs, in Europe in cooperation with Rakuten Wuaki.

Samsung Electronics said on Sunday that it joined hands with Rakuten Wuaki, European subscription VOD (SVOD) provider, to provide its TV Plus service in five major European countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain starting May.

TV Plus is a virtual channel service that allows users to enjoy various programs such as dramas, movies and music at any time on Samsung Electronics’ smart TVs for free. Rakuten Wuaki offers more than 10,000 contents, including popular global TV series and Hollywood blockbuster movies across Europe.

Samsung Electronics will collaborate with Rakuten Wuaki to allow its smart TV users to download the latest Hollywood contents in premium 4K HDR quality, as well as to offer European consumers a variety of genres such as kids, action, and comedy.

With this partnership, Rakuten Wuaki is now able to provide high-definition contents through the world’s leading TV maker`s superior QLED TV, CEO of Rakuten Wuaki Jacinto Roca said, adding that the launch of the service would speed up the expansion of the 4K HDR content market.

Samsung Electronics has been providing TV Plus services to Southeast Asian countries and the U.S. since it first offered the service in Korea in 2015. It has partnered with Korean content providers, including CJ E&M, EBS, JTBC, and U.S.-based Netflix to offer various contents.
