South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. newly set up research laboratories for artificial intelligence (AI) and big data under its Visual Display (VD) division with an aim to bolster soft power readiness for the so-called fourth industrial revolution.
According to the industry sources on Wednesday, the Korean tech giant launched AI, big data and interaction laboratories on April 1 under the VD division’s advance development team led by vice president Lee Hyo-gun.
As part of reorganization efforts, Samsung Electronics realigned its mobile division by placing the product strategy team responsible for designating smartphone design and functions at a product planning stage under the direct command from mobile communication business president Koh Dong-jin. It consolidated its technology strategy team and technology management team.
In order to enhance cooperation with U.S.-based automotive electronics company Harman International Industries Inc. that Samsung Electronics acquired last month, it newly set up a synergy group under the automotive electronics business team. The team leader Park Jong-hwan, the firm’s executive vice president, is also heading the newly-established group. Consumer Electronics division merged some departments under the global manufacturing team.
