The Seoul bourse was sixth most active in initial public offerings (IPOs) last year among stock exchanges around the world. In IPO value, it came tenth on the scale of the World Federation of Exchanges.
According to securities exchange operator Korea Exchange on Monday, 80 companies went public through main Kospi and secondary Kosdaq markets last year. Their combined IPO value reached $532 billion, up 41 percent on year.
China’s Shenzhen Stock Exchange topped in the number of IPOs with 124 cases, followed by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd with 117 and Shanghai Stock Exchange with 113. In Australia, the entries came to 101 companies and in Japan, 81 firms.
Last year’s IPOs in Korea were reduced from 118 in 2015, but they included seven foreign names.
