SK Networks, a latecomer in South Korea’s car rental industry, has nudged AJ Rent A Car to become the second player by commanding a fleet of 75,000 cars.
The company said on Wednesday that its total number of rental cars reached 75,000 units to trail behind industry leader Lotte Rental that runs a fleet of more than 160,000 cars.
SK Networks started rental car service in 2009 with a humble set of 3,800 rental cars. It grew at an exceptional pace of over 47 percent, tripling the average pace of others with the help of the network of gas stations and repair service its sister company runs.
The company was first to introduce deposit-less long-term lease package - typically available for corporate cars - to individual drivers in 2010. In 2012, it included electric vehicles to its list of rentals. The company will ramp up its fleet to 83,000 units this year and 100,000 next year.
