South Korea’s leading tire maker Hankook Tire Co. aims to expand its retail business by upgrading its retail chain T-Station chain to multi-shops that sell a wide variety of tires from various brands, the company said Thursday.

Hankook Tire’s T-Station, with more than 560 shops across the country, plans to offer tires from other brands including Kumho, Nexen, Bridgestone and Michelin in 14 stores in a pilot program. The company will also enhance its maintenance service provided at T-Station by adding more service staff.

It also will go bolder on overseas expansion after it acquired Australia`s largest tire dealer Jax Tyres last month. It is currently mulling acquisition of several tire makers from Germany, France and China in a bid to expand its current 4,800 retail channels in China, Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa to 5,300 within this year.

The Korean tire maker raked in about 1 trillion won ($892 million) from retail sales last year, an official at Hankook Tire said. After expansion, it expects to double retails sales to 2 trillion to 2.5 trillion won. Hankook Tire posted 1.1 trillion won in operating profit and 2.62 trillion won in sales last year.
