South Korea’s global e-commerce platform provider Cafe24 has partnered with Japan’s leading logistics company Yamato Global Logistics (YGL) Japan to expand delivery networks from Korea to Japan.

Cafe24 announced on Tuesday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with YGL, a subsidiary of Yamato Holdings, to enhance cross-border delivery service between Korea and Japan.

The two companies aiming to initiate the delivery service at convenience stores across Japan on October 4 have been establishing a system to share order and shipment information. In Japan, about 30 percent of online shopping mall customers use convenience stores to pick up their orders.

The service will be first made available to members of Yamato called Kuroneko members. After purchasing products from online shopping sites built by Cafe24, customers can designate the nearest convenience store as a place to pick up their orders.

Cafe24 will promote fast customs clearance as YGL is the only company in Japan who receives a certificate of Authorized Economic Operator (AEO), meaning it is in accordance with international trade security standards. It will also launch a pay-on-delivery service to allow customers to check their products on their own and pay delivery fees later.

Cafe24 has established a nation-wide parcel delivery network in Japan in cooperation with Japan’s top three logistics firms Yamato, Japan Post and Sagawa Express. Japanese customers who purchase products on online shopping malls using Cafe24 platform can choose a delivery company after checking out shipment period, quality and additional service. About 23 percent of 60,000 online cross-border shopping sites built on Cafe24 platform are available to Japanese.
