South Korea’s Samsung Electronics will add high-speed photography feature to its Galaxy S8 to be unveiled in New York at the end of this month, which it believes will serve as an ace in the hole for its tech-focused marketing against advanced dual camera phones.

According to industry sources on Thursday, the leading smartphone brand will equip its latest smartphone with a camera that is capable of taking nearly 1,000 pictures per second, eight times faster than the iPhone 7, which takes 120 pictures per second. A slow-motion video applicable for broadcasting can be produced.

Samsung Electronics has paid attention to high-speed shooting technology unlike rivals that focused on dual cameras or the number of pixels. It stuck to a single camera for the Galaxy S8 as it did for its precedent model, Galaxy S7 which came with 12-megapixel camera a year ago.

In contrast, competitors stick to dual camera smartphones. The G6, the latest smartphone launched by Korean rival LG Electronics this month, is equipped with a 13-megapixel dual camera like the preceding V20 launched last year.

The Galaxy S8 has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with auto-focus lens as well as a 3.7-megapixel front camera for iris recognition.
