SK Group’s executives summoned over corruption scandal with ex president

Prosecutors are questioning the group’s former Supex Council chairman Kim Chang-geun, former communication committee chief Kim Young-tae and SK Broadband chief executive officer Lee Hyung-hee on suspicion of bribing Choi in return for special favors.
Arriving at Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office around 9:45 a.m., Kim Chang-geun flatly denied the allegation when questioned by a reporter about charges related to presidential pardon of Chey Tae-won, chairman of SK Group who was imprisoned in 2013 for criminal conviction for misappropriating corporate funds.
Kim who headed the highest decision-making board of the group during Chey’s absence text-messaged Ahn Jong-beom, former senior presidential secretary for policy coordination, thanking him for “a grace he will never forget” right after Chey was included in the list of special presidential pardon on Aug. 15 Liberation Day in 2015.
Kim said Ahn had nothing to do with the pardon.
Kim met the president in July 2015 on behalf of Chey while she had tete-a-tete with key business heads. A month later, Chey was released.
SK Group donated 6.8 billion won ($6 million) in November 2015 to Mi-R foundation and 4.3 billion won in February to April 2016 to K-Sports foundation. The two foundations were run by Choi.
