South Koreans are the world’s biggest buyers of Mercedes-Benz’s E-Class sedans after the Chinese, according to Maeil Business Newspaper study on data from automobile news and importers.
Mercedes-Benz’s flagship sedan E-Class sold 17,434 units in China, 6,941 in Korea, 6,732 in the U.S. and 2,819 in Germany, during the first two months this year. It is the first time Korean sales outperformed the world’s biggest luxury car market of the U.S.
Sales in Korea outpaced the performance in the home turf of Germany by 4,122, up 62 percent from the same period in 2016.
Korean demand for imported mid-luxury brands including E Class and 5 Series have been on a steady rise. Last year, sales of mid-luxury sedan models in Korea grew 4.8 percent on year to 95,122 units last year, while sales of domestic models in the similar category dropped 2.3 percent during the same period.
