Pre-order volume of LG Electronics Inc.’s latest flagship smartphone G6 reached 40,000 units in just four days, raising hope for the Korean phone marker struggling in the playing field of premium phones with the upcoming device.

LG Electronics began taking pre-orders of the G6 through the nation’s three wireless carriers - SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus - on March 2. It plans to take the pre-order until Thursday and officially release the new smartphone on Friday.

LG is offering benefits of up to 450,000 won ($389) for purchase of the G6. Those who pre-ordered the phone can be provided with free cracked-screen replacement service for one year and a protective case. All buyers can buy one of three products - LG’s premium Bluetooth earphone HBS-1100, LG’s Rolly Keyboard and Beetle Mouse, and Nescafe Dolce Gusto - for just 5,000 won.

The company opened more than 3,000 G6 experience zones on February 27 in retail stores of the three mobile carriers and electronics stores across the nation. When recruiting testers for the G6 last month, the company drew more than 200,000 applicants and the competition was almost 1,000 to 1.

“We will lead the premium smartphone market with the G6 boasting outstanding user convenience and quality,” said Lee Sang-gyu, managing director of Korea Mobile Group at LG Electronics.
