The secretive top policy-making Future Strategy Office of Samsung Group that came under spotlight for arranging donations for Choi Soon-sil and her inner circle in return for favors from President Park Geun-hye would formally come down next week. Its top executives have offered to resign.

Samsung Electronics Co. Vice Chairman and de factor leader of Samsung Group Jay Y. Lee vowed to dismantle the controversial office during a parliamentary hearing in December.

A Samsung’s high-ranking official who asked to be unnamed said Friday the group plans to make a formal announcement next week.

Lee, who is currently detained on multiple criminal charges including bribery and embezzlement, is expected to be formally charged by the independent counsel on Tuesday. The group is expected to announce the disassembly on the following day.

Future Strategy Group’s top officials vice chair Choi Ji-sung and president Chang Choong-ki will resign from their post to take responsibility for Lee’s detention. Choi Ji-sung, dubbed as the second-in-command of the Samsung empire has headed the strategy office since 2012 and Chang has been in charge of the conglomerate’s external business.

The group would reassign the 200-strong staff in the office to their original divisions and companies.
