A Chinese Internet service platform provider will acquire South Korea’s CDNetworks, a full-service content delivery network (CDN), according to sources in the investment bank (IB) industry Friday.

ChinaNetCenter, a Shenzhen Stock Exchange-listed firm, announced that it will buy 97.83 percent stake in CDNetworks for $187 million in its regulatory filling.

Established in 2000, CDNetworks is the largest and third largest provider of CDN service in the local and global market respectively. It has about 1,300 clients in 98 countries across the world including Samsung, Hyundai and Ebay. Although it was acquired by Japanese telecommunications operator KDDI Co. in 2011, the company still makes the important decisions and develops new technology in its head office in Seoul. Its earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) reached 7.68 billion won ($6.78 million) in 2015.

ChinaNetCenter is a dominant player in CDN market in China with 40.6 percent share as of 2015. It is expected to have raked in a net income of 200 billion won last year.

“We hope that this acquisition will pave the way for the advancement into the global market”, an official at ChinaNetCenter said.
