Huh Chang-soo, GS Group chairman, agreed to continue to head the scandal-ridden Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) as no other corporate heads offered to step in to replace him.

The board on Friday approved extending his third term for another three years. Vice chair would to go to Kwon Tae-shin, head of the Korea Economic Research Institute.

Huh agreed to assume the role shunned by all other peers.

He plans to launch reform committee to overhaul the organization better known as a lobby group for top chaebols.

The committee would also comprise of Park Young-joo, Eagon Industrial Co. Chairman; Kim Yoon, Samyang Holdings Corp Corp. Chairman, Lee Woong-yeal, Kolon Industries Inc. Chairman.

It would draw up a plan to transform the organization into a nonprofit social think tank like Heritage Foundation or Business Roundtable.

Top four chaebols Samsung, SK, Hyundai Motor, and LG Group that took up two thirds of the organization’s membership revenue bolted out of the group that came under fire for arranging corporate donations for organizations run by Choi Soon-sil, a controversial friend of President Park Geun-hye.
