The South Korean government has officially launched a joint public-private committee for strategic coordination and actions to respond to the needs of the fourth industrial revolution.

“The strategic committee will outline the policy and vision for the government and corporate sector for the fourth industrial age,” said Yoo Il-ho, deputy prime minister in charge of economic affairs while presiding the first committee meeting.

The first meeting was attended by minister of 15 government offices, head of the state think tank Korea Development Institute, and 14 from the corporate sector.

The committee will coordinate policies related to intelligence scattered across various government offices and reflect corporate and public opinions to design public policies to keep the country ahead in the new age defined by full automation and computer intelligence applications.

It will focus on removing unnecessary regulations and making incentives as well as establishing flexible labor market and tighter social security in the age where machines will increasingly replace human labor.
