Visitors to Seoul Motor Show 2017 will get a chance to experience self-driving cars at the auto show coming up in Seoul from March 31 to April 9.

The organizing committee for Seoul Motor Show 2017 at a press conference on Wednesday said it will hold an event for the general public to test ride a self-driving car on April 1 and 2. The test drive for the general public is limited to the weekend for the first comers.

The car’s operating system was developed by the organizing committee for Seoul Motor Show in collaboration with Seoul National University. The model of the self-driving car is K7 sedan of Kia Motors Corp.

The K7 autonomous car will drive on the 4-kilometer road around the Korea Exhibition Center in Ilsan, north of Seoul. Up to three passengers can get into the car with an engineer at the driver’s seat. For safety, the car won’t speed beyond 40 kilometers per hour (25 miles per hour). The car will be Level 3 experience with the car taking control at the presence of a driver.

The Seoul Motor Show 2017 under the slogan of “Design the Future, Enjoy the Moment” will open for 10 days starting March 31 at the Korea Exhibition Center. Nine Korean automakers including Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors as well as 18 international car makers including Nissan and Land Rover will be participating in the auto show. German commercial vehicle maker MAN SE will also appear at the show for the first time.

Naver Corp., country’s leading online portal operator will showcase the autonomous car that it is developing.

The auto show will exhibit around 300 vehicles including 32 new cars and two models unveiled for the first time.
