South Korea’s electronics giant Samsung Electronics Co. has launched Samsung Pay in Malaysia, making its flagship mobile payment service now available in 11 countries across the world.

According to the company on Friday, it has partnered with Malaysia’s Maybank, Commerce International Merchant Bank, and branches of Standard Chartered Bank and Citibank in the country to offer easy-to-use mobile payment services including credit cards and pre-paid cards through Samsung Pay.

It has also teamed up with local royalty card firms B Infinite, BonusLink and Sunway Pals to provide optional services. The royalty cards are membership cards used in some countries, which reward users with points that can later be used as cash.

Following its launch in Malaysia, Samsung Pay has become available in 11 countries across the world including South Korea, China and the United States, and Samsung Electronics aims to penetrate other markets with Samsung Pay by upgrading mobile wallet features.

Samsung Pay was first introduced in Korea in 2015 and the mobile payment system that allows its users to pay for purchases at online stores via a simple fingerprint authentication step has become a big hit.

The company held a launch event of Samsung Pay at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) in Malaysia with 300 people, including officials from major banks and the media in attendance, on Friday (local time), it said.
