Sohn Kyung-shik, co-chairman of CJ Group
Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), a lobby group for the country’s major conglomerates, will name Sohn Kyung-shik, co-chairman of CJ Group as its next chairman.
The FKI announced Friday that it will hold a general meeting on February 24 to vote on appointing Sohn as its next chairman. It is currently headed by GS Group Chairman Huh Chang-soo.
The business organization customarily takes a step of inaugurating the new chairman at a general meeting after it internally selects the new leader in a unanimous vote by its vice chairpersons and announces the appointee to the public.
Once the most powerful business organization in the country, FKI came under fire for acting as a middleman to arrange corporate donations to groups run by President Park Geun-hye’s confidante Choi Soon-sil. It is expected to head toward dissolution after country’s major conglomerates including Samsung pulled out of the organization and other companies are appeared to follow the suit.
