South Korea’s LG Display Co. is in talks with several Chinese companies to sell advanced liquid crystal display (LCD) panels in proprietary nano cells, said vice chairman and chief executive Han Sang-beom.

“Some of our Chinese clients are interested in our cell technology,” Han told reporters at a regular meeting of the Korea Display Industry Association on Monday in Seoul.

Nano-cell technology provides consistent and accurate colors while maintaining picture quality at wider viewing angles by coating nano-cells, ultra tiny mineral particles, on the color filter. The Korean panel maker unveiled the technology for the first time at CES 2017 held in Las Vegas in January.

LG Display is entering its first-ever agreement with Samsung Electronics whose panels are mostly supplied by its sister company Samsung Display to deliver panels for TVs. He was pessimistic about a supply contract activating within the first half.

LG would have to adjust its panel size to meet Samsung’s product line, and mass-production will likely be possible after June, he said.

The new P10 production line in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, will be ready to open in the first half of next year. The mainstay product from the new line will be large organic light-emitting diode (OLED) TV panels, but it also could roll out smaller LCDs or small- and mid-sized OLED panels, he added.
