South Korea’s NH Investment & Securities Co. is in talks to wholly own a securities subsidiary in Vietnam, investment bank sources said Wednesday.

The brokerage firm owns 49 percent in Woori CBV Securities and is hoping to buy the remaining share held by a consortium of local individual investors. It has completed due diligence and is negotiating price terms for the interest.

NH Investment & Securities, formerly Woori Investment & Securities, acquired 49 percent stake in a Vietnamese brokerage house in 2009 and has operated the investment service in Vietnam under Woori CBV Securities. But its sales and marketing activities have been limited because it lacked full management control over the subsidiary, industry watchers said.

The Korean securities company earned record-high 7 billion ($6 million) net profit from the overseas operation last year, and it hopes to further strengthen its businesses across the globe. It currently runs six overseas subsidiaries and two offices including Hong Kong, China, and Indonesia. Its Hong Kong subsidiary alone delivered 6 billion won or more in net profit and businesses in China and Indonesia contributed 500 million won and 7 billion won, respectively, to the firm’s overall income statement.

Shares of NH Investment & Securities closed Wednesday at 11,650 won, up 50 won or 0.43 percent from the previous session.
