Hyundai Ioniq Electric picked as best eco-friendly car in US

Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq Electric received top green car score from the American Council to take home an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE)’s annual Greenest vehicle award, the South Korean automaker said on Wednesday.

The Ioniq Electric nudged ahead of BMW’s i3 as the former was slightly cleaner with 0.78 points on the environmental damage index (EDX) versus the latter’s 0.80, while both tying at 64 points in green scores.

The ACEEE selected top 12 eco-friendly cars for this year based on green scores calculated with the environmental damage index (EDX) which measures pollution coming from vehicle manufacturing, the production and distribution of fuel that powers the vehicle, and vehicle tailpipe emissions.

The Ioniq Electric has fuel economy certification of 191 kilometers per full charge. The Ioniq comes in 3 options - Hybrid, Electric and Plug-In Hybrid.

Ioniq Hybrid and Electric versions will be available in the U.S. this month.
