Luxury carmakers have upped marketing efforts in Korea as sales have been flagging on tougher taxes on corporate cars.

Forza Motors Korea Corporation (FMK), the exclusive Ferrari and Maserati dealer in Korea, said Tuesday it is offering benefits of up to 12 million won ($10,529) for purchase in Maserati sedan Quatroporte whose average selling price is between 152.8 million won and 227.1 million won. Marketing promotion is a first for a Maserati car in Korea.

Benefits include free options such as premium leather interior and ventilated seats. Buyers of Maserati sports sedan Ghibli priced between 107.4 million won and 138.8 million won would be offered 4 million won worth free options like a 19-inch sports wheel.

Porsche Korea Co. will initiate a lease program on its Cayenne sports utility vehicle brand, allowing consumers to rent out the SUV costing around 130 million with 30 percent advancement payment through monthly installment over the rest for three years.

The so-called seven supercar brands imported to Korea such as Maserati, Porsche and Aston Martin sold 4,730 cars last year, down 17 percent from 5,751 a year earlier. Sales were dampened after the Korean government revised its tax code in January last year to cut tax breaks on company-owned cars by recognizing up to 8 million won of a purchase of a car as a legitimate expense.

Companies as a result have turned less to supercar purchase as a means to ease corporate tax bills.
