Cosmax OP for full 2016 surge 46% on stellar sales

The cosmetics maker on Tuesday reported operating profit of 52.6 billion won ($45.8 million) for full 2016 on a consolidated basis, up 46.4 percent from the previous year. The sales expanded 42 percent on year to 757.0 billion won.
Sales from the domestic market jumped 35.7 percent to 505.5 billion won from a year ago period thanks to steady rise in sales of skin care products and growing orders from offshore customers. Ties with fashion and pharmaceutical names also translated into higher sales.
The Korean cosmetics maker in China alone raked in 283.9 billion won in sales, up 32 percent on year.
Holding entity Cosmax BTI Inc. for 2016 registered 20.2 billion won in operating profit on sales of 266.9 billion won, up 79 percent and 33.5 percent, respectively, on year. The health supplement units under Cosmax Group like Nutri Biotech Co. did well overseas and Cosmax Bio Co.’s sales were helped by home shopping contributions.
Cosmax on the same day said it will pay its shareholders an annual cash dividend of 1,000 won per share for 2016 and Cosmax BTI 200 won per share. Payout would cost the two companies each 10 billion won and 1.9 billion won, respectively.
Shares of Cosmax closed Tuesday at 140,000 won, up 10,000 won or 7.69 percent from the previous session.
