All the registered members of Samsung Group, South Korea’s biggest business conglomerate, have pulled out of the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), a lobby group for chaebols accused of having played a middleman to arrange corporate donations to groups run by President Park Geun-hye’s confidante Choi Soon-sil in trial for bribery and power abuse charges.

According to Samsung on Friday, all 15 members including Samsung Electronics, Samsung Display, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung SDS, Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, Hotel Shilla, Cheil Worldwide and Samsung Heavy Industries have notified their leave.

Jay Y. Lee, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics and heir-apparent to Samsung Group vowed to depart the lobby group during a parliamentary hearing on the unprecedented power abuse scandal involving the president and Choi. The FKI has come under fire for its go-between role of arranging donations for Choi and the president.

LG Group was first among the country’s top four conglomerates to divorce from the lobby group December last year. Samsung’s 15 affiliates paid 13.3 billion won in annual membership, or one fourth of total membership fees at the FKI.

With Samsung’s departure, the once-mighty interest group for chaebols founded in 1961 is expected to head toward dissolution as other companies appear to follow Samsung’s suit.
