South Korea’s Hanwha Total Petrochemical Co. said Thursday that its high-density polyethylene (HDPE) resins for bottle caps were selected as the “2016 World-Class Products of Korea.”
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) have been awarding the title since 2001. The candidacy goes to products with over a 5 percent global market share or those within the world’s top five rank in terms of global market with an annual export record of over $5 million.
Hanwha Total Petrochemical’s HDPE resins for bottle caps command the largest market share both domestically and globally with 76 percent and 12 percent, respectively, as of 2015.
Manufacturing HDPE resins for bottle caps requires diverse technologies as they should be made easy to open yet leak-free and durable for hot liquids and carbonated drinks. Certification is also picky as they must be safe for human body.
