South Korea’s telecommunications equipment maker Dasan Networks Inc. will beef up supplies to public telecommunications company Andhra Pradesh State Fibernet Limited (APSFL) with new shipment in telecommunications equipment worth 12 billion won ($10.47 million) as a part of broad partnership to help modernize internet infrastructure in rural part of India.

The Korean company has been shipping products to APSFL since December last year. The Andhara Pradesh (AP) state with a population of 60 million pledges to significantly upgrade its internet speed up to 10 Megabyte per second (Mbps) from current 2Mbps for one million residents in need of daily use of the internet. Dasan Networks’ first shipment will go to the infrastructure upgrade.

The company also will seek other business opportunities in the state and mulls opening factory in the eighth largest state located southeastern part of India. It signed a memorandum of understanding with the state for strategic partnership to modernize IT infrastructure in the region. Dasan Networks hopes to expand the partnership to other Indian states to help raise the nationwide internet penetration rate to 30% from current pitiful 2%.

Shares of Dasan Networks ended Tuesday at 5,930 won, down 1.33 percent or 80 won from the previous session.
