South Korea’s leading electronics maker LG Electronics Inc. on Tuesday (local time) broke ground for its North American headquarters in New Jersey, which would be completed by 2019 at a cost of $300 million.

According to the company, the new corporate campus located at 111 Sylvan Avenue, would be six times bigger than current headquarters, comprising of a five-story north wing and a four-story south wing over a space of 63,000 square meters. The new headquarters will accommodate more than 1,000 employees, doubling from its current 500 employees working at its current head office.

The complex with solar panel rooftop is being designed for LEED Gold certification in mind by blending with the scenic views of the Palisades as well as woodlands and six wetlands on the 110,000-square-meter site in Englewood Cliffs. LG Electronics will be increasing the green space by 50 percent and planting more than 1,500 trees and will house an educational science center for local students.

William Cho, chief executive of LG Electronics North America, said “Englewood Cliffs has been home to LG in the United States for 30 years, and now we look ahead to the next 30 years and beyond with a world-class corporate campus that will support LG’s growth and our commitment to being a good corporate citizen focused on the environment.”

It expects the new office park would create hundreds of new construction jobs and permanent jobs in the coming years. Once the new complex is complete, the firm will consolidate workers from other LG locations and hire new people to work in the new office as well.

The building project is expected to offer about $26 million economic benefit annually to Englewood Cliffs, Bergen County and New Jersey, according to the company.
